Facts about the Holy Quran
Quran
is the Holy Book of Muslims and it is guidance for all humanity. Quran
was revealed by Allah SWT on His last messenger, Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH). The holy book is followed by every Muslim. Millions of Muslims
recite it daily and memorize it. The Quran provides a code of life for all humans to follow and make life better.
This
divine book of guidance is filled with secrets that Allah SWT invites
us to explore and ponder over. Many of the revelations made in the Quran
are now being discovered by contemporary science in 20th century which makes us believe in the divine knowledge and power of the creator.
General Facts
The
Quran was reveled on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through the angel Jibril.
The age of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was 40 at that time. The first verses
of Quran were reveled during the month of Ramadan, to the Prophet
(PBUH) in the cave of Hira which lies in the outskirts of Makkah. The
revelation of Quran is spread over a period of 23 years during which
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) migrated to Madina from Makkah with other
Muslims.
There
are 114 Surahs or Chapters in Quran out of which 86 were reveled in
Makkah while 28 were reveled during Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stay in
Madina. Surah al Baqarah is the longest Chapter in Quran, comprising of
287 verses while Surah al Kauthar is the shortest surah. Quran is
divided into 30 parts for the ease of compilation and recital.
The
compilation of Quran started soon after the death of Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) by Abu Bakr (May Allah be pleased with Him) to safeguard the holy
scripture for the generations to come. Today, the Quran we recite is
exactly the same as that which was reveled to the Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH). The main reason behind the preservation of Quran in its real
form is that Allah Himself took the responsibility to safeguard Quran from corruption and deletion
“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian.” (Quran 15:9)
Allah
has made Quran very easy to understand and remember. This is in fact
the only book on earth which can be memorized and is memorized by
millions of Muslims around the world. It is Allah Who has made Quran learning easy
that we can remember Quran’s verses fluently even when Arabic is not
our first language. Allah addresses this fact in the Quran too, in the
following verse
“And We have certainly made the Qur’an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?” (Quran, 54:17)
Beside
the general knowledge about the Quran, there are astonishing facts
hidden behind the holy scripture of Quran which are only clear to the
minds that read Quran with complete conviction and belief. These hidden
treasures have been in front of us the whole time but now the
contemporary science have started making discoveries which leads us to
the conclusion that Quran is in fact the word of Allah.
“Then
do they not reflect upon the Qur’an? If it had been from [any] other
than Allah , they would have found within it much contradiction.” (Quran, 4:82)
Some of the countless miracles of Quran are discussed here forth.
Human Birth and Anatomy
The
foremost fact in Quran is about the creation of human beings. There
have been many theories regarding the existence of human beings, the
most popular one being theory of Darwinism by Charles Darwin that man
has evolved from species of Apes and monkeys. But Quran rejects all such
claims, in fact it clearly states that
“He (Allah) created man.”(Quran 55:3)
The
birth of a human in itself is a miracle. The holy Quran explained the
process of creation of a baby in mother’s womb even before the existence
of modern medical science. The stages of development of human baby from
drop of semen into fetus are evident from the following verses;
“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and….” (Quran 49:13)
“Does man think that he will be left neglected? Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?” (Quran 75:36-37)
“Then
We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a
lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the
bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So
blessed is Allah , the best of creators.” (Quran 23:14)
The Identity in the Fingerprint
Another
miracle of human beings is that no two people are alike, so much as to
the fact that the finger prints of every human are different from each
other. This fact has been described in the holy Quran by Allah in the
following verses
“Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips..” (Quran 75:4)
The Pairs in Creation
In the Quran, Allah says;
“Exalted is He who created all pairs – from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know.” (Quran 36:36)
The
meaning of this verse from the holy Quran has long being considered as
that of a male and female pair of living things, including humans and
animals. But the modern science has revealed more depth to this verse as
it has been discovered that matter is created in pairs, i.e. matter has
an exact opposite called anti-matter.
Anti-matter
carries the opposite properties to matter. For instance, as opposed to
matter, the electron of anti-matter is positively charged and its
protons are negatively charged. This discovery has opened up a vast
field of study for the scientists and millions are spent on the research
of properties of anti matter.
Water as basis of creation
Water
is essential for all living things. More than 70% of earth is water.
The importance of water for existence of life is vital. It has been
discovered by the modern science that the cells which form the living
creatures are made up of water. This information has already been
reveled in the Quran, as Allah says that:
“……and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?” (Quran 21:30)
Feelings of Touch and Pain Rise from Skin
Skin
is the largest organ of the human body. It has been believed for a long
time that senses are controlled by brain and whatever we feel on our
skin is due to the function of brain. However, it was recently
discovered that the skin has its own set of pain receptors which are
responsible for the feelings of touch and pain. This fact had been
reveled in the Quran 1400 years ago in the form of following Ayah:
“Indeed,
those who disbelieve in Our verses – We will drive them into a Fire.
Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with
other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is ever
Exalted in Might and Wise.”(Quran 4:56)
In
the verses above, Allah informs the disbelievers about the pain felt
during the trial in Jahannum where the skin will be burnt from hell-fire
and then Allah will give new skin to the people of Jahannum so that
they can keep feeling the pain. This clears the misconception that only
brain is responsible for feeling of touch and pain, where in fact the
skin has receptors to feel.
Fact About Earth
Major
discoveries about earth and the universe have been reveled in the Holy
Quran even before the modern scientists found their evidence. One of the
greatest revelations being described in the following verse from the
Quran:
“And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.”(Quran 51:47)
The
Ayah reveals that the universe is expanding continuously. This fact was
discovered by the modern scientist Stephen Hawking in the last century.
This revelation opens up so many new doors to discoveries about the
universe and gives a new dimension to astrophysics by revolutionizing
the concept of universe.
Iron Is Unearthly Substance
From
the discoveries made by the geophysists and scientists, it’s been
proven from the properties of Iron that this metal is not a part of
earth’s core but in fact it came to earth from outer space as a result
of meteorite showers billions of years ago. This fact has been mentioned
in the holy Quran in the following verses
“….And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people,…” (Quran 57:25)
Allah
uses the words “sent down” clearly pointing out the fact that Iron was
not part of earth when it was formed but was sent down to earth so that
humans can benefit from its properties. This revelation in Quran
strengthens the belief that no human could have known these facts and
written a book so full of secrets that have been discovered only
recently through technological advancements.
Protection of Earth with Sky
Sky
is shielding the earth from the outer universe, the radiations from sun
and the extreme cold of the space. In the absence of sky, life will
seize to exist on earth due to the radiations from sun and the cold
temperature of the universe. The sky lets the universe to maintain a
steady temperature that is conducive to all forms of life. This property
of sky has been highlighted in the Quran by Allah (SWT) in the
following verse
“And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away.” (Quran 21:32)
Roots of Mountains
Although
mountains seem as a raised part of the earth, it has been found that
they have deep roots inside the earth too which helps in strengthening
the core of the earth. These roots of mountains work as stakes, to make
the ground firm under our feet and not letting the layers underneath the
ground slide. This fact has been addressed in the Holy Quran in the
following verse:
“Have We not made the earth a resting place? And the mountains as stakes?” (Quran 78:6-7)
Having
this knowledge at the time when Quran was descended is impossible, thus
strengthening the fact that the Quran’s verses have been written by a
divine source which is the same source that created earth.
Movement of Sun
Since
the discovery of solar system, it has been believed that all the
planets revolve around the sun and sun remains fixed at same position.
But more recently it was discovered that the whole solar system is part
of the Milky Way galaxy and the sun, along with the whole solar system,
is moving in an orbit around of Milky Way Galaxy. This fact about the
movement of Sun has been revealed in Quran more than 1400 years ago
before the advent of modern science in the following verse
“And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming.”(Quran 21:33)
The Quran in itself is a miracle and
it is a clear proof of the existence of a divine power i.e. Allah. The
facts and the complete code of life presented in Quran make it sacred to
all humanity specially Muslims. In the Quran, Allah asks mankind to
search for the signs of God around them and to ponder over the verses of
Quran. Every time you recite Quran, you’ll find something new from the
treasure of knowledge it encompasses.
“We
will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it
becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient
concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?” (Quran 41:53)
Indulgence
in the study of Quran will further prove many facts and unearth hidden
secrets in this Holy Scripture from Allah. We must try to recite Quran
daily and look over the meanings to completely understand the message of
Allah.
“No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; So whoever wills may remember it.” (Quran 80:11-12)
